History in the Making - Year 3

When we began this year, we would have never dreamed that we would be part of such a historical and world changing event as the COVID19 Pandemic. Whilst we don’t consciously think about the fact that this is a major historic moment in time, what is certain is that we are currently living through a period that will be spoken about for generations to come. Just as the children who lived through World War I, World War II and the Black Plague had their lives changed in a memorable way, so too have that of our children. To document their experience of how they have been managing through this unprecedented time, the Year 3 students have created reflections to share their thoughts and feelings about social distancing restrictions, their revised learning provisions and the adjustments that they have had to make in their lives. Enjoy reading what some of our children have had to say.

  1. Who would have thought that 2020 would begin like this? When I see someone, I want to give them a hug, but I can’t because of COVID-19. I haven’t seen them in a long time, like my Grandma and she really misses us. She can’t wait until this whole thing is over so she can give us a big hug. What I have enjoyed about schooling from home is that I can work at my own pace and it is a lot quieter. What has challenged me is that there is only one of my mum and she has to teach me and my sister, at the same time that she has to work. If we were going to school, then it would be much better because there is a lot of teachers there that can help us. Me and my sister have been doing school from home the past few weeks. I have felt kind of lonely because I can’t play with my friends or talk to my teachers. When I do online learning, I sometimes get annoyed because I would have to type for a long time. I have liked going on the laptop and getting to learn how to use the laptop a bit more and learn how to type faster. You also get to know where the letters are on the keyboard. I have learnt that when we go onto the laptop, I will know where everything is and how to get in and know how to do it. I am really looking forward to when all of this is over so we can go out for dinner, see family that we haven’t seen in a long time and go to the beach. But, the thing I am most excited about is GOING BACK TO SCHOOL!!

  2. I never realised that a virus could change the world so dramatically. Life feels boring because of COVID-19. I can’t do anything, no sports (just yet), no visiting my friends and there is hardly anyone at school. It’s like Australia has been shut down and everything has changed.

It makes me feel sad because when I watch the news, I hear about all the people who are dying from it. All I hear is the word CORONAVIRUS whenever I turn the TV on and now it’s all I can think about.

I miss my cousins and my grandparents too. They are so funny and I can’t wait for Poppy to say, “I love you”. I can’t wait for netball to start again. I have been practising while we are waiting for the season to start again.

My learning space looks the same because I still go to school. Now we do online learning and I use my iPad a lot! I really like using my iPad because it’s fun and it’s much better than using a laptop.

  3. 2020! What a year this has been! Who would have thought that Covid-19 would change our lives so much. Everyone has had to stay at home because of the virus. There is a big pandemic happening around us. The Government has asked everyone to stay at home as much as possible. The Government has also asked us not to travel to other countries.

The coronavirus has made people very worried. It has made people very nervous that the virus will spread germs. School has changed a lot, there are not many children going to school, but we are trying to do online learning to help with social distancing and learning from home. School is very different without seeing our friends everyday. I have been coming to school still for my learning, and it has been a lot quieter than usual.

Something that I have learnt about myself is that I enjoy learning on my laptop. One thing I am looking forward to after the virus goes away, is having more fun with my friends and learning new things with them.
